A 30% increase in the gas tax when we have a 2 Billion dollar surplus is bad enough but the truth is the so called backlog in road projects was artificially created.
Governor Haslam moved money from TDOT (road fund) to the General Fund, Debt Service Fund and the Education Fund.
Here are the years and amounts this took place:
- 2012 $193,243,800
- 2013 $194,365,000
- 2014 – $196,234,300
- 2015 – $177,611,900
- 2016 – $189,572,000
- 2017 – $195,200,000
- 2018 – $187,100,000
The total amount Governor Haslam and the Tennessee General Assembly has moved from TDOT is $1,333,327,000.
We DID NOT have a road funding crises. This was a manufactured crisis by our governor.
Overtaxing a people is immoral and must stop.
